social conundra #1

last friday i was getting myself some lunch at the forum in st. leonards when i found myself in an interesting social situation. read on, then let me know what you'd do in the same situation and how you'd handle it.

so i went to order myself a grilled chicken focaccia with lettuce, cheese and sweet chilli sauce from the sandwich shop. i placed the order (i.e. told her what i wanted, she didn't say how much it was yet), the kind lady picked up the sandwich, sliced it, put it in the griller and then went on to serve some other customers.

i go to get my drink from the fridge as she serves other people.

about 4 minutes later my lunch was ready. i'm standing at the counter, waiting for her to ask for payment, with my money clearly in hand and the bottle of drink. the lady puts the meal in the bag, wraps it up and then hands it to me saying "there you are sir, have a nice day" and deadset starts to look for other people to serve.

she never asked me for payment.

do you say "excuse me, i think you'd want me to pay for this now"? do you walk away because, in her mind, i'd already paid and she would, therefore, quickly forget about me? are we obliged to give her or someone else the money in any case?

let me know what you think, and i'll let you know what happened next later next week.

Comments:
i'd ideally go back to the fridge and steal as many drinks as i could carry and run away with an evil kinda belly laugh....booohaha.

i'd probably try to get her attentiion again and hand over the cash....tricky situation.

Just give her the money on Monday and say use it to bet on the Swans winning the premiership....

hehe the exact same thing actually happened to me and my mum at a place in hornsby the other week....random!....he started serving someone else but we got his attention and paid...

of course you pay!

while it would've been worthwile getting her to put money on the swans winning it all 2 years straight, as well as to take the food and run, i paid.

she seemed off in her own little world, though, so i could've just gone without her ever knowing...

I was at a shop the other day and not only was I not asked to pay, she gave me change from a $50 which belonged to the lady in front of me...the lady in front had run off so I had to chase her around the shopping centre and by the time I got back I'd lost my place in line and had to wait another 10 mins....LAME....people are such space cadets sometimes

Dude.

Pay the lady.

:-D

Oh my goodness! the same thing happened to me at hornsby a few weeks ago.....except when i pointed out that i needed to pay it turned out that she'd actually made me the wrong sandwich....
going by chelsea's post we should all clearly stop buying sandwiches at hornsby!
